Review: Ivy League -” To Fall From Grace” Mixtape

Guess Who!!

Ivy League , a Hip Hop artist bringing us a some good vibes of music with some mixture of the 90s and early 2000’s in his latest work TO FALL FROM GRACE“. The mixtape , a compilation of 15 songs  introduces itself with a different flow of tracks with amazing beats I have to admit. Having involved different producers that were a really good choice for the concept the artist was aiming for this masterpiece having work from producers MIKEY BEATZ, FASTLAIN, ~A~DEUCE, CARNAGE, SENSAITIAN ,SEEP TANDEM, MIKEY DAVIS gets this album on a hype from the first time its played. Ivy League not only keeps his vocals on point in each song but delivers an amazing plan for pushing this mixtape to success . As listening “TO FALL FROM GRACE “the artist  does involve a featuring of fellow NGG partner KOOLEY JONES in “RIGHT ABOUT NOW”  that has one amazing flow by both artist & the vocals of DVNCI in  “THE LIFE ” god bless his voice; its amazing that’s what artist should remember to involve diversity in their work. Ivy League’s lyrics show a artist with a lot of talent ready to follow that path of success beginning somewhere by keeping it real and original. From the first play of this mixtape it was truly impressive, not knowing what to expect but the mixtape shows one great presentation. “To Fall From Grace” has officially made it to JoJos Block loop of music on the daily , there was no dull moment through each track ,it brings for every type of listener that appreciates good music  and it delivers a message on each one, either if you like music you can bump to  I suggest press play to “Keep It On Quiet” or just want to vibe kick it back with ” Good Business” or maybe a little spanish flow check out ” Guess Who” just some suggestions .

JoJos Block has to give much respect on all the tracks on this mixtape especially “Never Made It To Heaven”, ” Good Business”, ” Still Hip-Hop” , “Guess Who”.

We actually were able to have a small interview with Ivy League ! check it out!

*So let JoJos Block and the world know who is Ivy League?

IVY LEAGUE: First and foremost, thank you for this opportunity! I truly appreciate the love. I’m one of two artists within our team/brand, No Gravity Gang (No Grav Gang or NGG). With me, there’s fellow artist and close friend KOOLEY JONES (@KOOLEYJONES). I wouldn’t say that i’m an old soul, but i’m a 1998-2005 soul for sure. You can view a lot of what I say, and interpret much of my music within that context. The one artist I’ve truly respected and looked up to growing up, is Jay-Z. I think he’s the best to ever do it and that also helps to explain a lot about what I do and how I go about things. I’m personally here to supply some new, fresh Hip-Hop. I need people to hear what NGG is doing, and have faith in Hip-Hop again.

*Where did your dedication to music begin? What truly inspires you to create it?

IVY LEAGUE :I’ve been doing music seriously for about 2 1/2 to 3 years now. Growing up though, I would always listen to rap and feel like I could genuinely put words together just like the rappers could. It wasn’t until about 5 years ago when I was casually in the studio (as a fan) watching KOOLEY JONES and his brother REE, that I saw how great they were as artists, and realized it might be time for me to consider jumping in. On top of that, naturally, rap music grew to be a passion of mine throughout my younger years. It’s literally the only genre of music I listen to. Just rap, nothing else. I love the art form and I’m heavily motivated by the fact that I know the value I can have to today’s rap game. I’m now going to make this next statement regardless of what anyone may think of it. Me & KOOLEY can be legendary in Hip-Hop. No question about it. Legendary in every sense of the word.

* Ok ..So your latest album “To Fall From Grace” tell us more about it and how it came about?

IVY LEAGUE :”To Fall From Grace”, in my opinion, is a breath of fresh air that Hip-Hop needs, and has needed for a while now. It’s a vibe you’d hear during the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Fresh Hip-Hop. There’s something on the project for every kind of listener. The common link between all of it, is that it always keeps great energy, lyricism, and relevant content without getting boring. That’s something I really try to avoid. Being boring/uninteresting. I think that’s the most common trap that  “lyrical” rappers traditionally fall into. “To Fall From Grace” just has that energy and aura about it.

* From ” To Fall From Grace” what is your favorite song and why ?

IVY LEAGUE: “Never Made It To Heaven” is by far my favorite song. It’s in a world of it’s own. I don’t even compare it to the other tracks on the project because it’s like comparing apples and oranges. It’s just a different entity in itself and serves it’s own isolated purpose. The production by MikeyBeatz (@MrMikeyBeatz) and SenSaitian (@SenSaitian) is just unbelievable to begin with, and the emotion behind what I was saying is extremely deep, personal, and real. It all ended up projecting perfectly on the track. It’s all-around perfect.

* As I listened to the album I came across the song ” Guess Who” and I couldn’t help but notice you sampled that salsa beat. What made you add that in the loop of your music?

IVY LEAGUE : AHHHHH! Yes, “Guess Who” was produced by one of the realest dudes I know, hands down, my dude ~A~ Deuce (adeucemusic.tumblr.com). I always keep an ear out for anything that can be sampled. There’s also a slight history of me rapping on some crazy/unexpected type production. I came across the original Celia Cruz track and was like “YOOOOO, THIS IS IT RIGHT HERE”. It had the crazy latin flavor and I knew I could do my lyrical thing on it. I got in touch with ~A~ Deuce, he flipped it, and the rest is history.

* Any more projects in the future that we should look out for?

IVY LEAGUE:As far as Ivy League releases, “To Fall From Grace” is the main project we’re pushing. There will be videos for tracks from “To Fall From Grace” coming soon. That’s going to be exciting. KOOLEY JONES has crazy work that he’s cooking up and my boys Beautiful Struggle (@Btfl_Struggle) are dropping a project called “Life As We Know It” real soon. Also, my dawg Glocky Davis (@Southern_Giant) recently dropped his “Above Avrge” project, which is a classic. People need to get that.

* Being part of the Hip-Hop scene what are your thoughts on Hip Hop music nowadays? Do you believe its dead?

IVY LEAGUE : Hip-Hop isn’t dead. It will never die. However, the power to control what gets heard and what’s considered popular, is with the fans. The power is always with the people. It’s not major labels’ or radio’s fault why only certain kinds of rap gets played and promoted all the time. It’s all business. Labels, TV, and radio will ride with what makes them money. What makes them money, is what is demanded by the people. The people can make whoever they want, famous. It’s actually really simple. But today’s crowd knowingly settles for what society tells them they have to listen to, buys into it, and supports it, but then turns around and yells “HIP-HOP IS DEAD”. “NOBODY REALLY RAPS ANYMORE”. False. SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC. It’s out there. It’s here. Listen, download, and share what you feel is quality. Keep any biased opinions aside. Just listen to the music, enjoy, and support what you know is real. The vast majority of the industry can’t even compete with the quality of music we’re putting out right now. Call me crazy, but listen and find out it’s true.
I want to to thank Ivy League for his time and special S/O to ” To Fall From Grace” , to all that worked on this amazing mixtape as producers & artist!
